Weird is right!!

Check out this news article. This picture is a Fried Coke with Whip Cream. Here is a list of the new fried foods that the Texas State Fair will add to the fried festivities. I am not sure if Mark Sisson would approve? I also wonder if this is the reason that Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex has the best and most Heart Hospitals in the United States? Any way's being a Canadian and a athlete that doesn't eat fried or processed foods i had a hard time keeping my breakfast down after my run and swim workout this am. Hopefully i will get my appetite back soon. Training has been going very well and i will be off to Austin after tomorrows training in the morning.

This week

Congrats to Carley for finishing her Masters!!! She is now officially smarter than i am. Just joking she always has been. But if she was really that smart would she be dating me?
I had a great week of training logged, and i am a bit tired. There where many adventures along the way, some can be told and others can't be due to police investigations and pending evidence.
Monday- Threshold Swim
Tuesday- Threshold run w 45mins f'n H#ard Pace
Aerobic Recovery Swim; Then a 2hour big gear strength ride in pm
Wednesday- 1hour base run; Pulls/strength swim session, followed by threshold intervals on the bike for a couple of hours with David. * we found something in the ditch but i would rather not speak about it. I felt like i was on CSI
Thursday- 2xswim 1st one was a speed/threshold session with 20x50 fast!!, then easy run,
Second Swim- recovery and drill and a 90minute easy spin with David. 4 workouts meant early to bed.
Friday- am swim Aerobic Power 3x800m main set short rest
pm- 2hour ride with 20min intervals at high cadence
Saturday- Run workout am, followed by a recovery swim and a movie marathon on t.v
Sunday- 3.5hour brick session, that went sweet followed by a aerobic swim session in the afternoon.
Sunday night had a beer with my buddy David, a long story short but that beer i am holding is 6L and weighs more than i do. Half a beer and i was ready for bed. It was a great week with 22+ hours, i know this week is looking like a bigger training load and some good hard intensity. On Friday i will be heading to Austin for work, but i will be putting in some great training on the weekend up there. I am looking forward to digging my self out of this hole, and resting in a few weeks time. Congratulations to Richard Hyre and Rhodsey at Ironman Canada.

Focus

Good Recovery week but timed to get focused. With 4 weeks till Muskoka70.3, i feel the strongest and fastest i have ever been. I have time to get in a few more weeks with a some rest leading into Muskoka. Alister has done a great job over the last few months making sure i will be able to swim fast, and hang with the lead pack on the bike, i have done allot of work but its not over. All and athlete can do is step up to the plate and do there best and have a lot of fun along the way. Last week i received my pro invite for the US OPEN Triathlon. Last year i raced in the US OPEN and it wasn't bad but wasn't good. The funny part of it all was Simon didn't go and by accident they gave me his cap and i didnt realize it till about to start. After a quick change of a cap, they introduced the athletes and by accident they introduced me first in front of Greg Bennett, Hunter Kemper, Craig Walton, Matt Reid, just to name a few. So after the stresses of the beginning of the race and loosing my goggles, and a very fast race it was done. I remember seeing Emma on the run, thinking man she is running way faster than i am right now. Yesterday she won the Race in Beijing, with a amazing run split. I will have to see how my training goes after Muskoka because Austin 70.3 is the same weekend as the US OPEN. Either race will be amazing, but will have to see what Alister thinks. Either way hi heard Hugh Dawgg was coming Texas for either race, which will be beauty. Want to wish the boys good luck, i will be dialing into some Beijing Action this evening. I may have to tape the race because it is time to get focused and between Phelps and gymnastics action i have had too many late nights.

recovery week

Things have been going well in the dirty south. I feel a little like Carley has invaded my blogging but that is good, because i have been to tired. She is more like the graphic designer so i have a feeling my pictures are slowly being removed. The last two weeks were great but it is time to let myself recover before i tackle another two weeks. The past two weeks i had 12days of training with 2 travel days. I swam 10x, Biked 11x, and ran 10x for 52 hours of work. I was really happy with my 1,010kms logged in the 12days of cycling. I am feeling more than ready to step up at Muskoka 70.3. Florida i semi steeped up coming 7th, i swam well and biked well, but faded on the run. Buffalo springs i had an injured foot, but since then things have gone really well, and my form is starting to show. This week i am taking things really easy and chilling like this panda in the photo however i will have ice in my bath water.
Not much has gone on for training a few workouts so far, but nothing to write home about other than a threshold swim with some 100's and a pretty good fartlek run. I also had some massage work done on Monday from the Tarpmaster so my body is starting to come around. I wish i was going to Nationals in Kelowna, but i had to pick and choose my battles and doing well in Muskoka and some other races later on in the year were my goal. Kelowna was always a fun race but with the Olympics going on it would have been a good Nationals to race at.

Sudbury ---> Orillia ---> DFW

Saturday was my last morning in Sudbury and it consisted of a 5 hour ride followed by an afternoon and evening in Orillia with my parents before flying back to DFW today. The ride was extremely wet and it turned out to be 5.25 hours as I decided to make progress and ride towards Orillia, and have Carley pick me up and continue the remainder of the trip by car. The first pic is of me after the ride, followed by me and Car on our way to Orillia.
We arrived in Orillia in the early afternoon and had a great visit and dinner with my parents. The third pic is a shot from my parents deck at night, it's quite impressive. I flew back to DFW very early this morning. I arrived here at noon and went for a 75 minute run to loosen up the flight legs. It was 100 degrees at this time of day and for the first time I really felt the heat. It was a big change from the Canadian summer, especially the wet/cold one they are getting this year. After the run, I put my bike together and went for a little spin. Overall, the week was great spending time with Carley in Sudbury, having a quick visit with my parents last night and logging 27 hours of training with over 600 km of riding was an excellent vacation. I am excited for next week's training to begin.

After a rough 4 hour ride in which Mike met me half way and we hit it hard. A quick run with Carley and it was a solid friday, roughly 5.75hours of training, with a good hard ride. I had a some great visits with friends. First one was with Mike, Maureen and the kids, and check me out on the Kids bike I look like a giant. Then a fantastic dinner with Carleys parents and her brother Dr. Ryan and girlfriend Barb. Right after dinner we made a solid Mike Hay cookie recipe, the cookies are delicious and will definitely fuel my ride tomorrow morning. Then I was off to visit BlairSki at Mrs. Commito's 50th Birthday. It was good to see BlairStar. I was supposed to visit with the mr. and mrs smith but I need to get some rest for my 5hour ride in am. Tomorrow after the ride it's off to Orillia to visit the 'rents, and Sunday I will be back in the dub!

Day6,7,8-

A few good Cold Rainy days.
Wednesday- big swim in am with the boys, then a hard bike workout that was 3.25 hours with 4x15mins @threshold power with 5mins easy, it was a very hard workout, and i could have used Mike Yates and his motor pacing abilities but it was a great hard session. Then i met Chungmaster and Ryan for some Sushi at a new place in town to celebrate Chungs Birthday. After that it was a little run in the later afternoon and lots of rain.
Thursday- A pretty good recovery day, started the day off with 1.75hours spin zone 1 to loosen up the legs. After that it was a good 4k open water swim session with 5x5oom main set. A easy day to get me ready for the next few days. Carley and i went and to see Pineapple Express in the afternoon and then made a fruit crisp at night, some much needed calories.
Friday- This morning i started off the day with a 4k swim with 800m intervals. I am just eating breakfast now and heading out for 4hours zone2/zone 3 steady ride, where i will meet up with Mike later on in the ride. Tonight there will be another little run with Carley to stay loose. This week has been all about putting in some Volume. I am starting to get a little fatigued, but it is a good feeling. I want to wish the boys good luck in Beijing!

Day 5

After a good 25 hour training week with a easy day and travel day, Monday was a great recovery day at Carley's Cottage. After Sunday's good hard swim in the open water to top off a 6 hour day of training I felt a bit rough. Luckily the sun came out and we were catching some rays on the boat and seadoo. This week will be a great week of training as long as the weather stays nice. This morning I rode 5.25 hours at a good steady effort and pace, I incorporated lots of long hard climbs to start mentally getting ready for Muskoka. After the ride it was another great blended lunch of fruit and hemp protein and other goodies followed by a little rest and then I was off to a hard swim. The main set was 6x200m at MRP and then some hard 50's. I had a to flex my ribs for the lifeguards to let me finish my swim due to crazy T-storms, but it was logged and another good 6 hour plus training day to start the week. This week I will be doing a big swim/bike focus to give my legs a bit of a rest from running. The past few weeks I have had some great intensity and mileage running.

Sunday Day 3

Today's day 3 in Sudbury training hard. This morning i did a 3hour steady ride out to whitefish and towards Esponala before i turned around and rode through lively. A quick stop at an organic food store in the woods that had blueberries and bison meat and I was quickly on my way. After the ride i was out for an 1hour 45minute run around the lake and some other hills around the area. Carley joined me on the bike. It was nice to have her join me as this loop is not the easiest loop I have ever ran, we took at lot of pics along the way. We are now on our way out to Carley's cottage though she lives on the lake she still has a cottage, perhaps her cottage lake will be a less busy and warmer to swim in. This afternoon after some seadooing and chillen on the pontoon boat at Car's cottage I have to do a swim with some 200 pick ups. This will finish up my training for the day, a total of 6 hours. Thankfully tomorrow is a day off so we get to enjoy more time at the cottage and I may even rekindle my wakeboarding skills.
PS: Doug I emailed cervelo.

day 2

Today is day 2 of being in Sudbury. Last night Carley and i went to see Step Brothers at the movie theatre, it was fricken funny. A good movie and I definitely recommend seeing it. There are a few pictures above, Carley posing after her hard run, both of us chillen at her place, and a bike pic as well as someone caught me having a nap. Who would have thought I slept with my eyes open, it must be my inner Ninja skills showing. Today was another good day; i started the day in the saddle for just over 4hours for a hilly windy ride, it was great to be out riding. The plan was 3x20mins up tempo, i could feel yesterday in my legs plus all of the interval training this week. I still managed to get fired up for the ride, it could have been the back street boys or Hanson brothers' blaring in my ears from Carleys ipod. After the ride i made a great fruit/hemp smoothie and headed to the pool for a swim session. Well today was 5hours plus logged, and Sunday will be even bigger and better. I know Carley is taking me to some sort of shindig later this afternoon, so hopefully they dont mind me using there bath tub to ice.

Good 1st day with a Clean Face

Today was a great day of training on my first full day in Sudbury. This morning i met the boys for a swim session. Ryan Smith was like Mcgyver in the water. We did 8x400m aerobic with 15rest. I didn't have a wetsuit so i was feeling towards the end of the swim, not to mention a little cold. With a big wu and cool down it was a good open water swim session logged. After a little nutrition i was out for a 90minute run towards the university and into the conservation area. The run was great, heart attack hill wasn't my friend, but a great run once i got into the trail. I got stung by some kind of bug and my wrist is a bit swollen but i was too busy taking in the trees and the chipmunks running beside me. After the run i arrived back at Carley's locked out of her house. So i had to use some Mcgyver skills of my own.
Later on in the day i was out for a ride with Mike Hay who is super strong, and Ryan who is just Jezzy with his new wheels. Great ride, did 10x2mins hard with 1min easy main set, pretty hard, like Tom Bonnen Hard. I experienced a little rain towards the end of the ride. Well a good first day but many to go.
